Doublehead Gap Road - All Asphalt
Author Last Post
Agree. The nothern section is particualry pretty, well graded, well surfaced and makes for a highly enjoyable ride.

I stumbled on this myself last week.  I don't know how long it has been that way -- given that I have avoided the section for years.

Part of the newly resurfaced Double Head Gap is scenic farm land, similar to the scenic area on Hwy 60.
This is not news to all, but may be to some. Confirming that all the 2.7-mile section of the 6.5-mile length of Doublehead Gap Rd north of its intersection with Newport Rd that was previously hardpacked gravel has an asphalt surface. It’s not a great surface and there does not seem to have been any other improvements. So, it’s still narrow, but it suffices. As a more direct route to/from Hwy 60/Morganton Hwy it is not going to be quicker that the great 7.8-mile Newport Rd/Dial Rd combination to which we’ve been accustomed. It also by-passes Van Zandt's Grill & Grocery on Newport Rd which is often a welcome stop on a ride, but it does provide another asphalt option in the area.

Time to ride?
