Ride

Iron Horse Foothills Parkway Figure-8 Saturday
Airhead Mark
A 16-mile extension of the Foothills Parkway between Walland and Wears Valley was opened last November, making the western section a total of 33 miles. It's an obvious new ride to take in from Iron Horse this weekend.

So, Jonathan S and I plan to ride the full length in a figure-of-eight route Saturday. We’ll leave camp at 9:30AM with the objective of getting back no later than 3:30PM. That will leave open the option of riding into Bryson City later for dinner if eating at the camp does not appeal. First leg US28/US129/Happy Valley-Rocky Branch/US321 to lunch stop in Townsend (anticipate 1-hour BBQ lunch stop). Next Little River Road (or shortcut via US321 if traffic on Little River Road is heavy)/Foothills Parkway/US129 to US129/Hwy28 junction. Finishing to camp, depending on time, either direct on Hwy28 or via US129/Hwy143. Between 150 and 160 miles, and 4½ and 5 hours ride time (assuming no gas stops along the way).

Happy to have company. Large version of route map below and GPX of all route options are attached.
