David,
Well, I had a way of converting a Google map to GPX. I re-imaged my computer and had to install Basecamp again, and it doesn't seem to work like it did before. After making a route on Google, you copy the URL. There are a couple of sites that convert the URL to GPX. Here is one: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input. After converting you should be able to import that file into Basecamp as a route. Now, I have to import the GPX file into "my collection," which brings it in as a track.  You can convert the track into a route, but I found I had to rearrange the track points in the right order. And, yes. It does save the route exactly as I mapped it. Sorry this is so convoluted. I had not done it in a while and it seemed to be an easier process before.

Ian
Ian, what is your method of converting your google maps to GPX?   And does it save your exact turns and waypoints?

Ian,

There are a few basics in Basecamp that you have to master.  After that it is straightforward, if a little awkward at times.  I've done a few Basecamp clinics at BMW Atlanta Open Days, but have not been asked recently.....

Anyway, I've pulled in all the routes from my archive that were not in the GPX file I posted earlier.  Means the GPX here should have all the "Wild Rides" routes mapped on the 2016 "Motorcycle Touring Map."

Thanks! I've dabbled with Basecamp, but it still seems clunky to me. I've had better luck creating routes in Google maps, them importing them into basecamp. Would be interested in getting some instruction on how to use Basecamp better.
Ian,

Attached is a GPX file with routes of those runs shown on the maps below.  I think I have others around and east of Asheville mapped. If so,they are archived.  I'll dig them out some time.

I am pretty handy with Basecamp, but I've not ridden many of these routes so cannot testify to the accuracy.

Enjoy.

Mark,
Interesting? Is it possible to share Basecamp routes?
Scott,
How about 5/1515 - 5/16 or 5/21 - 5/22?

Thanks,
Ian

Just seen these posts.  There’s an advertising supported publication that you’ll see in many of the motorcycle-friendly stores around the mountains area called “Wild Rides.”  I’ve mapped many (maybe all) in Garmin Basecamp.  The maps below give an idea of the routes.  As I’ve highlighted them all with many overlapping the maps are a little confusing.  Happy to share details if you are interested.

I would be interested in riding in May.
I would have to do a few up and backs as I have a long trip to Colorado Springs planned in June.
Looking to do a few day rides mid-May and add some new routes in the Western NC/Tenn., Blue Ridge Pkwy, 441, Wayah, Tail of the Dragon, areas (done them all several times).  Any suggestions? Anyone want to come along/guide?
